Maine had the highest death rate in the US due to cancer of the esophagus between 1999 and 2017 of 5.7 deaths per 100,000 population, followed by New Hampshire at 5.6 deaths and Washington DC at 5.4 deaths. States with the lowest death rates due to cancer of the esophagus were Hawaii at 2.8 deaths, Utah at 2.8 deaths and New Mexico at 3.4 deaths.
