This chart shows the trend of violent crime in the US between 2014 and 2018. The numbers presented are number of crimes per 1000 population across the US. While a slight decrease is evident in 2015, the rate of crime has been increasing ever since.

The number of victims decreased from 5,359,570 in 2014 to 5,006,620 in 2015 and increased to 5,353,820 in 2016 and again to 5,612,670 in 2017 and 6,385,520 in 2018.

US Crime Rates between 1993 and 2018

Crime rates in the US decreased from 1993 to 2015, with small upticks 2006 and 2012. Since 2015, rates have increased from 0.98% to 1.18%. These rates represent percent of US residents aged 12 or older who were victims of violent crime.

What is the biggest crime in the United States?

Property Crime is the most prevalent crime in the United States at 2199.5 crimes per 100,000 population, followed by Larceny Theft at 1594.6 crimes, and Burglary at 376 crimes per 100,000.
