Finland tops the list of safest countries for rail travel with just 9 incidents for 5926 kilometers of rail, followed by Canada at 102 incidents for 48498 kilometers of rail and Sweden at 24 incidents for 9684 kilometers of rail.

For this purpose, an incident is defined as a person killed or injured in a train accident. The safety record measure was obtained by dividing the total rail length in kilometers by the number of people killed or injured in the period 2010 through 2019.
